These 3 Gorgeous Italian Kitchens Are The Stuff of Dreams

Italians simply have a way with food. Every dish is a dreamy blend of artistry and tradition; every bite as robust and romantic as the country itself. And, as it turns out, that perfect alchemy extends to the very place in which the food is prepared: the kitchen.

It’s a craft that Officine Gullo—the family-owned kitchen design company founded in Florence, Italy—has been honing for more than 30 years. Known as a master of the metal kitchen, a style that took hold as the steel industry grew in the early 1900s, the company takes cues from centuries-old Florentine cooking traditions and translates Italian culinary excellence into bespoke kitchens that they design and install all over the world.

Local Tuscan mechanical workshops and artisans expertly hone metals (like burnished copper, cast iron, steel, and brass) to elevate kitchen appliances to an art form. They blend tradition with innovative technology like burners that can release a power of up to 10 kilowatts, or roughly 34,000 BTUs, and lava stone grills to make each piece a feat of craftsmanship and engineering.

The beauty of Officine Gullo is evident in even a single fixture, but it’s the complete custom kitchens that truly showcase the company’s excellence. Case in point: These swoon-worthy Officine Gullo kitchens anchored by Professional Cooking Ranges, in three styles. Read on for the insider tour.

Tuscan Country Chic

A historic villa in the hills near San Gimignano sets the scene for this rustic-meets-elegant space. Housed in a former oil mill, the pearl white kitchen against the stone walls and vaulted red brick ceiling makes for a striking contrast.

“The structure of the room defined the kitchen design,” says Manfredi Conforzi, commercial director of Officine Gullo, adding that the space includes both appliances and cabinetry from the company. Three original ceiling vaults offered a natural delineation for the kitchen’s separate zones.

The first includes a cooking and preparation space. There’s an island containing a wash zone and a wall-mounted, linear cookspace with a smooth electric fry top, a professional electric oven, and an induction cooktop. And there’s a burnished brass panel and professional dome-shaped extraction hood overhead.

The central zone houses custom double-depth pantries to store flatware and food, including the homemade preserves the client makes. The third area showcases two professional wine fridges, with an extractable central column for glassware storage. Each element is made of pearl powder-coated stainless steel with burnished brass finishes for a refined, yet rustic look.

Color-Splashed Luxury

The bucolic setting of Tenuta Carleone, a farmstead-turned-luxury hospitality space in the rolling hills of Chianti, inspired Officine Gullo’s design of this kitchen. The owner, Austrian entrepreneur Karl Egger and his family, wanted the space to have “a unique style and design” that would be fitting for “incredible dinners” with guests, according to Conforzi.

To achieve this, Officine Gullo balanced warm sunflower-yellow cabinetry with stainless-steel appliances and polished chrome hardware. “The feel of the kitchen is a harmonious exercise in contrasting colors, accentuated by the natural light that shines in through arched windows,” Conforzi says.

A tile backsplash and range hood engraved with the family crest of the estate’s owners are artful touches. And the star of the space? That’s undoubtedly the OG Professional cooking range. It features a dual-zone induction stove, four burners, and an electric grill, along with two multifunction ovens.

Edgy Artistic Elegance

Designed for art collectors, every part of this Venetian villa “reveals the personality of the proprietors,” says Conforzi. Nowhere is that more true than in the kitchen, which opens to an outdoor dining terrace and also seamlessly flows into the living room. Officine Gullo crafted the space with a made-to-measure single block island that encourages socializing and, with its generous steel worktops, invites guests to partake in preparation.

“As culinary connoisseurs, the owners wanted to establish the kitchen as the very heart of the home: a place in which to exhibit, live, and shape,” he says. It’s equipped with a wealth of professional grade cooking methods, including a smooth fry top, four-burner cooktop, central coup de feu (a multi-function simmer plate), and an electric pasta cooker.

The rustic antique teak floorboards and warm shades throughout the rooms complement the kitchen’s pearl beige appliances, which have a powder-coated steel finish and solid brass and brushed nickel details. “The result,” notes Conforzi, “is an elegant, warm, and welcoming kitchen that is profoundly connected with the rest of the home.”
